Review Overview
8.4

EarFun has earned a sizeable niche in the competitive wireless earbud market, because it delivers impressive features at affordable prices. Launched in 2018, the brand has already made a name for itself when it comes to affordably priced but high-quality audio products, as they often compete with the likes of Anker Soundcore Spirit Dot 2, JBL, and even Apple at the cheaper end. They have concentrated primarily on innovation, ergonomic design, and competitive prices that have seen them establish a cult following among the casual listener and technology-sophisticated consumers.

These earbuds are targeted at the audience that does not want to compromise performance without breaking the piggy bank. Whether you are commuting, working, or heading to the gym, the Air Pro 4 is built to provide a balanced mix of comfort, sound quality, and innovative features in a highly competitive market, offering high-quality features at a non-premium price.

The EarFun Air Pro 4 is the latest attempt of the company to expand its presence in the mid-level segment of the accurate wireless earbuds market and builds on the success of its predecessors, Air Pro 2 and Air Pro 3. The EarFun Air Pro 4 offers improved active noise cancellation (ANC) features, multipoint connection, and aptX Adaptive codec support, features hard to find in such a low-cost model.

Unboxing & First Impressions

The box of the EarFun Air Por is very modern and sleek-looking. There is a quick list of key features on the front side of the box, such as Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), 6 Microphones, and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive Sound. You will find everything neatly arranged in the box when you open it. The charging case and the earbuds are perfectly placed in their own place.

You get the Soft silicone ear tips in three sizes, a quick start guide, and the USB-C charging cable in the box. You do not get many extra things in the box, and all the essentials are available that you need. In terms of first impression, it is imposing. The charging case finishes smoothly and has a minimal logo on the front side, which feels impressive but not flashy. The built quality of the earbuds justifies the price, as it has no strange noise and loose parts. The overall feel of the earbuds is easy to use and reliable.

Design & Comfort

EarFun Air Pro 4 follows the line of the brand, clean and stylish, with a pragmatic design. The earbuds have a stem-like body that is compact enough to be aesthetically pleasing and still ergonomically well designed. A matte finish with hints of gloss provides the buds with an upmarket appearance, and it simplifies the removal of fingerprints and minor scratches. Subtly placed on the stem, the minimalist EarFun logo is a nice touch that positively impacts the overall professional design that would look both at home and in the office.

When it comes to materials, the earbuds and charging case are made of a high-quality plastic with a soft-touch matte finish and feel very comfortable in the hand. The earbuds are also lightweight, thereby preventing ear fatigue after several hours of listening. The silicone ear tips provided come in three sizes and fit comfortably and securely in the ear without excessive pressure, giving you both passive noise isolation and increased comfort.

Air Pro 4 is ergonomically excellent. The earbuds conform to the form of the inner ear and fit precisely in place without needing to be repositioned. They are especially appropriate for commuting and light exercises or long calls. The earbuds can be worn even after several hours at a go without soreness or irritation, which is commonly experienced in less sophisticated designs.

All in all, the EarFun Air Pro 4 strikes a perfect balance between design and features. The lightweight design, ergonomic consideration, and low-profile stylish design make it a comfortable all-day carry that appeals to casual users, remote workers, and travelers alike.

Features & Technology

For those looking for a good pair of earbuds without spending too much money, the EarFun Air Pro 4 are the best option, thanks to their extraordinary features. Compared to older improvements, these earbuds have come with so many improvements and have premium features at a budget-friendly price. To block the noise from the outside, you get the smart microphones in these earbuds. These earbuds use the hybrid active noise cancellation perfectly. As claimed by EarFun, the earbuds can block noise up to 45dB.

However, when these earbuds were tested in real life, they could not block that much noise, but still, the noise cancellation was strong. There are three modes available in these earbuds, and you can switch to any one, such as Normal mode, ANC Mode, or Ambient Mode. You touch the touch control system of the earbuds or switch between these modes through the application. To block low-frequency noises like the noise of air conditioners or car engines, the ANC works perfectly and makes these earbuds a perfect choice for traveling.

On the other hand, you get the Ambient and Transparency mode in these earbuds, which keeps you connected with the world around you by allowing ambient sound to pass through. Interestingly, the sound with Ambient and Transparency mode is so natural and clear, and you do not find them artificial and fake as you do in the cheap-priced earbuds. These modes are proper when you have to do a quick talk, or in a busy street, walking through the traffic, and you do not want to take your earbuds out.

The Air Pro 4 has AAC, aptX Adaptive, and SBC audio formats. Particularly useful is AptX Adaptive, which automatically adjusts the sound quality to provide a steady connection and reduced latency, making it ideal for playing games or watching films. But unfortunately, these earbuds do not have LDAC, and many Android users will miss this feature.

Another surprising feature is the Multipoint Bluetooth. So now, you can connect with two devices simultaneously. Additionally, with multipoint connectivity, you can smoothly switch between your laptop and phone, and you do not have to disconnect from one. This feature makes multitasking and working from home way easier than expected. In addition to features, these earbuds have the IPX5 rating so that they can deal with light rain and sweat. So you can easily use these earbuds during a workout.

Sound Quality

The EarFun Air Pro 4 are the earbuds that offer the best sound quality at an affordable price. In these earbuds, you get a perfect mix of strong bass, precise balance, and an ideal vibe. These earbuds employ the special 10mm drivers to make the sound quality even more detailed and accurate. To adjust and customize the sound according to your taste, you can use the EarFun Audio App, which lets you change the treble, bass, and overall sound.

The sound is excellent right out of the box. The bass quality of these earbuds is so punchy and deep, giving you an immersive experience. The mids are clear and clean, and the trebles are very soft. So collectively, these earbuds are teh best choice that you can have in this price range.

As mentioned earlier, you get a strong bass in the Air Pro 4, but not so strong as to overpower the other elements of the sound. The bass gives the song a great sound and is best for the Hip-Hop, pop, and EDM genres of music. Songs like “You Should See Me in a Crown” by Billie Eilish and “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd are strong, yet the bass doesn’t overpower the other elements of the song.

The best thing about these earbuds is the mid-range, which makes them stand out in the market. The instrumental sounds are apparent, and the vocals and voices feel so natural and easy to hear. On the other hand, the treble of these earbuds is not too harsh but smooth. Treble is not strong enough to hurt your ears and cause ear fatigue. And if it does, you can change and customize it through the app according to your taste.

The Air Pro 4 excels well in soundstage and imaging, as far as in-ear monitors are concerned. Soundstage is wide and three-dimensional enough to give you a good performance, but unlike the over-ear headphones, it is not comparable to them. Each instrument and vocal is given its own room. The stereo positioning enables one to hear things clearly, going left or right. To listen to orchestral or jazz recordings (such as Miles Davis So What), the earbuds provide a nice amount of spaciousness and layering. In pop, rock, and electronic music, the dynamic tuning of the Air Pro 4 and bass style added to its jubilant sound and sound volume. On the classical and instrumental music, the earbuds are very clear and pleasant, and provide good depth in reading complicated parts. Great sounding jazz and blues too, due to the clear midrange and proper placement of instruments as well.

Compared to other earbuds in this price range, which include the Samsung Galaxy Buds FE, and even the JBL Tune Flex Earbuds, the Air Pro 4 can compete and even come out on top in particular regard. It also has a wider soundstage than the Galaxy Buds FE, more balanced sound than the Soundcore Anker Liberty 4, and more resolute mids as compared to many similarly priced rivals. Compared to the previous model, the Air Pro 3, the Air Pro 4 is tighter on the bass, has more natural treble, and separates vocals better. In general, EarFun Air Pro 4 offers an excellent sound quality at a price below 80 dollars. Regardless of whether you like bass or are a vocal-oriented listener or a listener that enjoys a broad mix of tracks, these earbuds provide a balanced sound with enough customization to provide a sizeable variety of listeners with the sound that they want.

Microphone & Call Performance

The EarFun Air Pro 4 features excellent call and microphone quality, given the price range of the device. Six high-sensitivity microphones enable the earbuds to isolate even the faintest voice and apply Qualcomm cVc 8.0 noise suppression technology to eliminate background noise.

The quality of voice calls held indoors is always clear. The voice is natural, and even when distorted, it has minimal amounts of digital disturbances. The mic captures speech clearly and consistently, whether you are on a Zoom call, recording a voice note, or chatting with friends. The in-ear headphones work reasonably well in isolating your voice against other noise like fans, light typing, or general conversation.

Outside, performance is good when in moderate conditions. The noise cancellation system precisely comes into play to eliminate the city and traffic noise, so that you can maintain a clear voice in crowded locations as well. Although exceptionally loud noise environments can still overload the mics a bit, the Air Pro 4 is better than most products in its price range for use outdoors.

During real-world tests, the earbuds performed very well in reducing the low-frequency ambient noise without producing a voice that sounded thin or robotic. In general, the clarity of the call is one of the best in the segment, and the AirPro 4 can serve as a commuter device for remote work and for any frequent calls.

Battery Life & Charging

The battery life of the EarFun Air Pro 4 Earbuds is solid and can last for a whole day. When you use these earbuds with ANC turned off, the listening time goes up to 9 hours, and the charging case adds 37 hours, for a total of 46 hours of playback time. On the other hand, if you use the earbuds with ANC mode on, the playback time decreases to 6.7 hours, and with the charging case, you get an additional 26 hours. And this playback time is impressive when you consider the price range of the earbuds.

In terms of weight, the charging case is so light, small, and easy to carry. However, the USB-C port is used to charge the case, but it also supports wireless charging, which is a nice feature. Lid opens and closes with a firm snap and keeps the earbuds safe in the charging case.

You also get the feature of fast charging in Air Pro 4, and if you charge the earbuds for 10 minutes, you can enjoy your music for 2 hours, which is an exciting feature for people who are always in a hurry. Overall, the battery rating is 8/10 and lasts longer than expected, even when used with ANC and Bluetooth Multipoint.

Connectivity & Controls

The EarFun Air Pro 4 offers a smooth and reliable wireless experience, enhanced by its Bluetooth 5.3 capability and Qualcomm QCC3072 chip. It features aptX adaptive, multipoint connectivity, and low-latency audio. The Bluetooth process is quick and straightforward- when the case is opened, the earbuds will automatically initiate pairing. There is almost no lag or stutter on the connections that follow it. The multipoint functionality is also very reliable, and this means that switching between two devices, which are often a laptop and a phone, can be done smoothly without manual intervention.

The external surface of each earbud has touch controls that work very well and are not touch-sensitive. The controls come ready to use to play/pause music, skip tracks, answer/end calls, and turn between ANC and ambient modes. The lack of volume control enabled by default is, however, a demerit to some users. Luckily, the touch gestures can be easily changed in the EarFun Audio App.

The companion application is not weighty, but still helpful. It lets it upgrade firmware, remap touch-sensitive controls, switch between ANC modes, and provide a five-band EQ with presets and manual adjustments. You can also view the battery level of each of the earbuds, as well as activate options like “Gaming Mode” that lowers audio latency. Though lacking in features compared to premium brands, it covers all the basics and improves the overall user experience.

Even when used in crowded places, such as during peak hours on a bus or in a cafe, the connection is apt to stay steady. With customizable controls and a powerful app, the Air Pro 4 is a user-friendly experience.

Noise Cancellation Performance

When these earbuds were tested in the real world, the ANC of the EarFun Air Pro 4 was proven innovative and impressively efficient. You can easily use these earbuds when commuting, sitting in an outdoor space, or working in an office. In crowded places, the ANC performed well and reduced the noise to a great extent, creating a peaceful, quiet environment so you can focus easily. Higher-frequency noises, such as voices or abrupt clinks, are still audible but are significantly reduced. While walking on the street with a light wind blowing, the wind noise cancellation feature works really well and softens the sound of the wind so it can not affect the voice quality.

The noise cancellation feature in these earbuds is not as powerful as half of the top brands, but it is good enough considering the price. The ear fit of the Air Pro 4 is perfect, and it effectively reduces the noise. When tested in real-life scenarios, the earbuds can reduce the 15-30dB noise on lower sound and 40dB for loud sounds.

When compared to more costly ones, such as Sony, Bose, or JBL, you can still tell the difference. The contrast between EarFun and such competitors as Bose QuietComfort Ultra is not that subtle. Still, Bose is better.” One of the individuals claimed that although the ANC performed efficiently in most of the scenarios, it does not offer the same level of quietness that top-of-the-range brands can achieve.

Gaming & Latency Test

Mobile Playback Experience on EarFun Air Pro 4. The EarFun Air Pro 4 can be a rather responsive game to use with Low-Latency Game Mode activated through the application or as a prompted touch maneuver. Latency speeds decline because it is reduced to less than 50 thinks that in-game sounds, such as gunshots or footsteps, will be virtually synced to the graphics. Even on high-speed handheld games, players complain that they hear gunfire ringing in their ears when the trigger is pulled on the handheld gadget. Game Mode also reduced the apparent latency of the non-2.4GHz Gamer says, making it much easier to play, although the 2.4GHz set deduction is also present.

As far as streaming and video synchronization is concerned, the earbuds do very well. Videos on iOS and Android devices, such as YouTube and Netflix, remain in sync with each other once the Game Mode feature is enabled. Considering the fact that it is a wireless option, this arrangement does not stand toe to toe with wired or dedicated gaming headsets. Still, in both its listening and its gaming applications, it provides a quality, near-lagless experience.

Final Verdict

The EarFun Air Pro 4 is one of the most capable wireless earbuds under $80. It provides excellent value with decent active noise cancellation, aptX Adaptive and LDAC, and has multipoint Bluetooth, an adjustable EQ, and even wireless charging; features that are usually the preserve of twice the price. It has a well-rounded out-of-the-box sound profile, a strong bass, a well-balanced midrange, and a smooth treble that may be altered to suit taste. The comfort level is excellent when it comes to prolonged usage, and the battery life can last up to an entire day. It is best suited to cost-conscious shoppers who are looking to get premium features, frequent travelers, remote workers, or students who are either very aware of the importance of good sound quality and noise cancellation, but do not want to break the bank. It is also perfect to use by people who own a laptop and a phone because of its reliable multipoint support. But in the event that you already possess the Air Pro 3, and do not mind LDAC, in-ear detection, or a modicum better ANC, it might not seem so imperative to upgrade.
