Denon is a remarkable brand for home cinema audio products, but it is still a newcomer to making personal audio products like true wireless earphones. This time, it comes with a flagship auditory product, Denon PerL Pro earbuds, specifically emphasizing personalized audio profiles. They are undoubtedly expensive but premium because of their posh design and features like custom-tuned listening for individual wearers. PerL Pro has a distinctive circular dish-like design and is equipped with Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology to create EQ-based personalized profiles based on an in-app ear shape test.
These headsets are perfect for neutral sound, with a well-balanced auditory profile suitable for various genres. One can boost the bass to enjoy low-pitched music in the Immersion Mode. Other flagship earpieces, like Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Sony WF-1000XM5, hover around PerL Pro’s price at $309 and $278, respectively.
They are available at $349, with a significant margin of $40 and $71, and are still more expensive than competitors. Each bud contains a 10mm triple-layer dynamic driver and is entirely circular, weighing 8.6 grams each. They are considerably heavier than others, as Sony INZONE Buds weigh just 6.4 grams, and Huawei FreeClip weighs 5.6 grams.
Make your phone conservations more transparent with Qualcomm aptX voice, which has a super wideband of 32kHz and 8 microphones. Denon also offers the multipoint feature in this model to connect them seamlessly with two devices simultaneously. With two wings and 5 ear tip options, these TWS buds stay comfortably in your ears.

Pucks of Sound
Denon PerL Pro headsets have neutralist tuning with more presence in the lows than the highs. This makes them more suitable for music lovers who like hip-hop, modern pop, and EDM. The Denon Headphones App also has a slider labeled Immersion Mode, which allows you to increase or decrease bass.
Personalized listening is the defining factor of these buds, providing sonic signature sound while songs with rich audio. During my testing, I found impressive improvements in the default sound from the box. Depending on the personalized sound test results or use of Spatial audio, the soundstage could be completely different for you.
In the default setting of the earphones, the soundstage is inclusive and linear without using spatial audio. I felt a straight line pinched across the left and right channels. While using spatial audio, both channels are connected well and can provide more recognizable imaging.
The instruments came comfortably while listening to normal tracks, as the soundstage became more holographic. The audio feels like it has a more detailed origin instead of feeling like it’s originating from the driver. It gives me a more live feel, although the headspace is restricted to being inside of the head.
Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds also offer more rhythmic consistency to all instruments with better audio. Enough bass surrounds my ears in the default mode, even without using EQ. It formed a clear body of mid-bass and sub-bass frequency content with a consistent shape.
My customized sound profile enhanced the roar of the lows to supply additional vibration to the signature audio. Enhancing the immersion slider in the companion app also adds extra bass resonance. The sound profiles make frequencies more tempting, and I imagine several prefer to keep the customized profiles to rob the earpieces of their natural refinement.
Design and Fit
When I unboxed the Denon PerL Pro, I was immediately impressed with its stylish circular design. It embodies a modern, appealing look that resonates with its unique style. It has a 10 mm dynamic driver for rich sound quality and a triple-layer titanium diaphragm for ultra-low distortion. At first, I was confused about its size, but after carrying it in my hand, I found it lightweight. Wearing it in my ears vanished all concerns about its size, as it fit comfortably. Not only did they feel good, but they also looked fantastic in my ears and exceeded my expectations.
They came with several ear tips, one Pair of foam tips, four sizes of silicon tips, and two sizes of winged support brands for the best fit. I ran a quick test to assess their fit and then played many songs with different frequencies. I found otoacoustic emission responses during the testing, reflecting your sensitivity to specific frequencies. These frequencies are picked up by extremely sensitive microphones in the earpieces.
Another ear tip fit test with the accompanying app to get a good seal is well worth employing. I also presented these earphones to a few of my friends; some found them to fit securely and stayed put on the first attempt. Instead, others saw the earbuds bulge out after a while and struggled to get fit for a longer time.
I experienced my ears getting rather hot when wearing these buds for a long time, and I felt the pressure in my ears. I didn’t experience this with its rival earbuds like Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2, which provides luxury fitting. The charging case is bulky with a Type-C port, but the profile is slim enough to place in your pocket.
Active Noise Cancellation and Social Mode
Denon PerL Pro headsets have adaptive Active Noise Cancellation and a Transparency Mode, which is significantly lower than ANC. The brand called Social Mode instead of Transparency Mode on this auditory device. As expected, the adaptive noise cancellation is okay but not good enough to block noise. The fit and seal are issues in reducing noise, which is a drawback compared to its rivals. These earpieces do not create a bubble of isolation but one with a tinny layer of ever-present noise. The external noise is lessened but should be suppressed more because of their high price tag.
The social mode is another aspect of these earphones that makes them a choice for audiophiles. Turning on this mode will reduce the volume and optimize an audio signal for speech fluency. It lets you hear the external world better while reducing the music volume. However, the PerL Pro shows weakness compared to competitors in the market, like Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II Earbuds. I categorized them as mid-tier noise-canceling earpieces with insufficient Transparency Mode performance, but I had to pay a hefty amount to buy them. During testing, I noticed some infrequent rumbling noises that interfered with ANC.
These earphones can reduce outside noise by 20dB to 40dB below 1kHz, with one point of Active Noise Cancellation capability near 200Hz. While cutting 75% of external noise is nothing to sneer at, it doesn’t put them among the best ANC earbuds. While making calls, you will likely hear some compression or noise at either end, which may affect your conversation. However, the brand used Qualcomm aptX Voice technology and ANC collectively intending to deliver clear calls. One can turn ANC off from the menu to extend the battery life using the Denon Headphone app.
Long Playtime
Denon claims that PerL Pro offers 8 hours of playback on a single charge, depending on the features you are using. Keeping the active noise cancellation and transparency mode will decrease the battery life. Similarly, listening to music at the highest level will also reduce the playback time. Instead, Apple AirPods Pro 2nd Generation gives 6 hours of playtime with the ANC, which works practically.
Our testing shows results close to the stated battery life with the Personalization Mode switched on. This extended listening session allows you to savor your favorite melodies longer without interruption. As discussed above, you will also find a charging case after unboxing, increasing its endurance.
These buds are the epitome of endurance in battery life, with 8 fantastic hours, where every second takes you deeper into the musical universe. Additionally, the charging case allows you to get three additional charges. Adding these 24 hours, the total playtime of the earphones extends to around 32 hours. It means you can continuously listen to your favorite tracks for one and a half days. The charging case has a Type-C jack; you can use the provided USB-A to C mini cable.
These earpieces also support Qi wireless charging, which makes cutting cords convenient. However, the wireless charging time may vary based on charger quality and environment. This feature improves customer comfort, making it a welcome cable-based charge replacement.
The carry case’s full charge takes just an hour, saving you time for instant use. Denon PerL Pro also offers a fast-charging feature, which allows you to get one hour of playtime by charging for only five minutes. Quick charging will help busy people with challenging routines use their buds when they are in a hurry.
Connectivity
Denon PerL Pro earbuds have the latest Bluetooth capabilities, which put them at the forefront of true wireless earpieces. They offer Bluetooth 5.3 version with Dirac Virtuo support like the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 with aptX Lossless and aptX Adaptive. These features provide a streaming experience just like listening to a CD. The earphones are bordering on something an auditory lover looking to try wireless audio may consider.
aptX Lossless is a top-tier codec since it produces a bit rate between 1.1Mbps and 1.2Mbps, while the maximum bit rate of aptX Adaptive is 420kbps. Instead, Sony’s LDAC can stream at 990kbps, and the previous aptX HD maxes out at 576kbps. In the app, you can select the Audio Takeover option so that when you press play on a paired device, the Sound plays automatically through the buds.
PerL Pro users can enjoy continuous listening with almost zero dropouts while ensuring advanced audio quality. These earpieces offer a high-quality and seamless listening experience with the latest Bluetooth codecs, including aptX Classic, SBC, and AAC. While testing, I experienced some stammering issues with the left channel, which only occurred under specific circumstances.
They also support multi-point, connecting your phone and laptop with the buds. This standout feature lets you switch between devices simply by pressing a button without handover trouble. Whether commuting, at work, or in other leisure activities, this is handy for uninterrupted audio and an enhanced listening experience. Whether listening to music on your phone or having a conference call on your laptop, it will facilitate you.
Denon Headphones App
Install the Denon Headphones app on your device to enjoy various features and other customized options. Access the Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology feature to customize the sound profile to your ears with a fit test. It plays a series of audio tones to check your ear shape and tells you the best one. This creates a custom EQ and profile for your ears for the best audio performance.
The app allows you to store three profiles to use in the future whenever you want. Explore the app settings more deeply to individualize the adaptive Active Noise Cancellation. Switch between ANC and Social mode with the assignment of touch-sensitive areas. The app also offers an option to limit the volume for hearing protection, which protects ears from damage.
When establishing a Bluetooth connection with your device, you can also find voice announcements and manual equalizers, for example. While testing the earphones, I set up another personalization using the iOS app.
