Earbud ergonomics guarantee a snug and comfy fit for prolonged wear. The touch controls on earbuds are responsive and intuitive; therefore, you can use your phone without reaching out.

The TOZO app, available on iOS and Android platforms, has another feature that adds to the customizability of the earpieces. With the app, one could customize the touch controls, tweak the active noise cancellation and transparency mode, and adjust the sound profile to one’s liking. This high level of creativity is not found in cheap earphones, so it was a pleasant surprise.

I have used the earphones and am so satisfied with their performance. I am kicked off by the 72-hour ultra-long playtime it guarantees. One single charge will last for a long time, even after several hours of continuous playback, making them very suitable for road trips or extended listening sessions.

The active noise cancellation functionality of the NC7 buds is another exciting thing for me. It effectively shields the outside noise, enabling me to enter my pod fully to cut myself off from the world. Furthermore, the transparency mode can be switched on when I need to be reminded of my surroundings without taking the earbuds off.

Design and Comfort

The only color option is black for TOZO NC7 True Wireless Earbuds. These IEMs are incredibly small and well-designed, from the compact packaging to the earphones. Their size might induce you to compare them with Jabra Elite 75t. They have an old-school look of the earplugs outfitted with polished angular edges. The outside of the buds comprising the matte plastic makes them modern and subtle.

The word TOZO is embossed on the front of both earpieces. This gives the feeling of being watched, as there are visible microphone holes under the logo, which may indicate that they are eco-friendly. They keep the wearer sweat—and moisture-free and, therefore, suitable for exercise and outdoor activities. They represent significant progress compared to FIIL T1 Lite and QCY T5, Edifier X2, and TWS1 Pro.

When you examine the headset part that nestles against your ear, you’ll observe premium-quality silicone earpads. These pads are soft and less pressing than other bud tips, which might create excessive pressure on your ear canals. The letters “L” and “R” are labeled on each one to help you identify which is left and which is correct.

Underneath the lines is a gold-plated charging connection, on top of which is placed a sensor for earpods release. Furthermore, a noise-canceling microphone can be found at the top, which reduces external noise to create an immersive auditory environment.

The charger case is very compact and easily fits in your palm. Accessibility is simplified due to a small opening on the front of the box through which the top lid can be opened and closed quickly. Furthermore, the gap at the bottom provides 4 LED battery charge indicators showing the status of the case’s battery.

Touch Controls

The controls of TOZO NC7 are tactile rather than mechanical buttons. Nevertheless, the sensitivity is high, so one may accidentally bump a cell phone against the skin. Yet, they react to only the touch, only to my finger. Thus, the headrests can also be used on the bed. TOZO should also design a touch-to-off feature through the app to keep users safe from mistouch.

Tapping just once does everything for your music playback and volume control and allows you through noise cancellation settings. Here’s an analysis of what you can do with these touch controls:

Play/Pause: You can play/pause your songs simply by tapping either side of either bud. Track Navigation: You can now rearrange the pieces, skipping forward or back. It makes the listening experience more convenient. The noise-canceling part can go on and off at your discretion; thus, you can customize your listening to suit your environment.

The following is the range of controls on the individual earpieces.

  • Increase volume: Tap and hold the right bud with your fingers while music is playing to increase the volume
  • Decrease volume: Double press on the left bud and keep it pressed while playing to reduce the volume.
  • Next: Two touches on the right earphone
  • Previous: 2 click on the left earphone.
  • Incoming call: Attend call: tap on either headphone to take the call.
  • Decline call: Tap and hold on them for 2 seconds.
  • Hold call: Double Tap either the right or the left bud for 2 seconds.
  • Cancel dialing: Hold or touch one of the ear hooks for 2 seconds when making or dialing calls.

Connectivity and Pairing

Once we proceed to what’s on the board, TOZO doesn’t mention the audio chip used. Although we do not know which earpieces have a 7nm dynamic driver, each has an active driver of 7nm. TOZO claims that this driver is dedicated to producing a balanced sound signature, and we will know the truth in the good part.

Another feature of these earphones is that they support Bluetooth v 5.3 and Aptx, the latest version. With Bluetooth 5.3, there is a more energy-efficient process, increased range, and immunity to noise than in the previous versions.

The selected specs indicate that the access range is 10 meters with no intermediate physical disturbance between the source and the earphones. I have tested them, and they are good. Also, the battery power has a role to play. The range is automatically curtailed when the battery drops lower to 50%. Additionally, sound quality decreases by as far as 6 to 7 meters.

When you connect them, they are up to their task. It might serve as an earphone by using the QC3040 and QC3050 chipsets. And it synchs very fast with my Xiaomi Mi 10T. It takes only 1.5 seconds after it is taken out of the case. Edifier X2, QCY T5, etc., are within 3 sec each. Redmi AirDots 2 is also within 3 sec.

Link master and slave connection can both be executed by either earbud. This means that when just one of the earpads is taken out for pairing and to run in mono mode, the other earbud automatically shifts to stereo mode when the other one is retrieved. When they are kept in the case, they will be turned off.

Sound Quality

The sound star of NC7 TOZO boasts a bright and bassy sound as the vocals and instruments float behind. Very often, most songs are busy creating sounds like S and T that are sharp and sometimes even disturbing. Generally speaking, it has the common boosted U-shaped response. When it comes to the volume, these earpieces are loud, so you would usually be at 50 or 80 percent of the volume. These noise-cancellers are almost 1.5x times louder than my FIIL T1 Lite and slightly louder than QCY T5.

At 100% volume, the volume is in their hands and doesn’t get muddy. On the other hand, the loud mid-treble could cause short-term discomfort, primarily for sensitive ones. The lower-pitched range, including the high bass, is exaggerated, offering a comfortable rumble and noise without being too overwhelming. Yet, it just can’t compare to the depths and darkness of the FIIL T1 Lite. Bass does, of course, move vocals and instruments behind it. Hence, you can expect a lack of clarity and mechanisms.

The mid frequencies, which consist of mid-mid and high-mid, are slightly recessed, enabling their bass to have a more substantial presence. For the reasons stated above, the vocals and instrumental sounds are drowned in the bass.

After that, high frequency (treble) might harm these earphones. Firstly, just as the high-mid, the low-treble is lacking. It is trying not to mix with lead instruments and vocals. And then, in the mid-treble, the boost is about 105 dB, and it is so huge that the sound becomes too bright to the point that it pains the ear. A few earphone models with large sound chambers and slightly open backs, like the Liberty 3 Pro, provide an excellent soundstage experience.

Active Noise Cancellation

These earbuds support three layers of Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). Why is it called 3L? Like other ANC earpieces, it has a two-microphone arrangement. Meanwhile, an outward-facing microphone detects surrounding sounds and counters them by playing the equal anti-noise to lower the noise level. Then again, the microphone, done by the sound, is aimed inward to the ear canal to pick up internal sounds and produce anti-noise to do it again to cancel externally twice.

Furthermore, the ear tips block nearly 90% of the noise going to the ear canal (you should find the sweet spot where position and size are perfect). Joining them thus, the noise can be canceled down to 35dB.

This pair has excellent quality ANC features. For sure, the ANC technology will only succeed in canceling some of the noises, such as sounds from fans, wind, static noise, and engine rattling. Even though no sounds are being played, now I can still faintly hear the voices of the people, the tapping sound, the keyboard essential sound, and the drilling sound. While playing the song, the bass, and overall sound volume are slightly reduced when the ANC mode is on.

There are many expensive models of ANC earphones, like the Liberty 3 Pro and Sony WF-1000XM4, which can be adjusted in the APP according to the level of ANC. This costs and the earbud has 3 ANC modes- leisure, reduced wind noise, and Noise cancellation with a presentable customization where the listeners can level up/down the ANC strength. Remember that to make it work perfectly, you must try various ear tips to find the most suitable one. With a half-star off the mark, I heard some sounds, but most noise types were reduced.

Call Quality

As for 70% of earbuds from the market I have tested that are superior to the microphones, TOZO NC7 is of no defense. Are they sounding muffled and weak in an airy voice? Well, I was impressed when there were noise sources around. It’s a problem with the background noise cancellation.

The call was fine indoors, but on the rooftop with a fan, in traffic, and while riding a bike, you can hardly hear because of the noise. TOZO NC7 does not claim that these buds have the CVC technology highlighted. But it claims that they have dual noise-canceling microphones. The earpieces’ midsection is medium, and the outer microphone is right.

TOZO App

The 2022 enhanced version of the TOZO NC7 is an upgrade on the last version. It has SBC, APTX, and AAC codecs embedded. This version does not have the downside of the latest one and is supported only by the Play Store (for Android) and App Store (for iOS). The features of this app for this model knocked me out because they can hardly make any difference compared with those high-end apps.

Now, after connecting the NC7, on the main page, you have a drop-down with two tabs (NC and Music). You do not need to press the ANC button, as it is already opened when you start the app. A picture of each bud with battery percentage is shown. Unfortunately, we do not see the remaining charges on the device. The current frequency waveform graph is in the effect sound tab.

Tapping on ‘Select the sound effect’ will lead you to the 23 presets, which, alongside a custom equalizer, can be found on the settings page. This is the best part of implementing this app. Since manufacturers don’t provide custom sound equalization for low-cost earbuds priced at, this app can make them sound better.

However, I could not connect to the earpieces using the Xiaomi Mi 10T app through the Xiaomi AIoT app (but they were already on my phone’s Bluetooth). I’ve got to use the Samsung M70 device and connect it to the app there.

Playtime and Battery Health

Another special mention is the battery life, which the company says should be about 18 hours (50% volume, ANC off) on a single charge and 72 hours on an overcharged case (3 charges). Hence, the question arises of how this seemingly too-much battery life is achieved.

To date, that’s the longest play time on a single battery charge by any earbuds. The credit belongs to Bluetooth 5.3. The second one is based on removing the earphone sensor, which lies inside your ear and automatically starts playing the audio, and once you remove the earpieces, it stops immediately.

While playing the earbuds at 75% of the volume, we were able to get around:

  • ANC on: 7 to 8 hours of battery time
  • ANC off: up to 15-16 hours of battery life

It will take about 2 hours to get a full battery charge that is 100% for the 70mAh headsets, and 2 hours to charge the case (500mAh). The NC7 v 2022 charging case currently has a Type-C port, an upgrade from the micro-USB port. Moreover, it includes wireless charging support, and TOZO announced its wireless charging pad as an extra tool.

It would need to be charged the same amount of time for both methods, which is 2 hours. The plus side is that they have a long battery life, but the irony is that they take more time to charge to a maximum than most earbuds under the same price. There was a lack of a ‘quick charge’ feature. But, let’s face it, I do not even need that six-hour battery timing with three additional charges left in the case simultaneously. Homeroom, however, earned two stars less because of this.

What is in the TOZO NC7 box?

The earbuds are inside a square white box. On the outside, it says ‘TOZO NC7’ with the model name. The NC in the square box could mean noise cancellation. On the back of the box, you will see the features of this earphone written in different languages, too. The most obvious thing is a note ‘Upgraded 2022’ scribbled at the bottom-right of the box.

There are six types of TOZO NC7 colors on the left side of the packaging box: black, white, steel blue, gold, silver, and pink. The tag that can be scratched is on the package’s right side. It indicates whether the TOZO product is original or not. Sliding the box upwards, ‘By TOZO in California’ is written on it; this resembles the AirPods box’s design.

Tearing off the top part, we can look at the earpieces through the case with their built-in. A section is allocated for the accessories, which made me happy because you can learn about the items in that section.

Besides, remember not to throw away the white lid part because it has the user manual, quick guide, and app pairing guide (a case similar to an envelope). It is worth mentioning that TOZO has its App pairing guide, which is detached from its earphones because most users find it difficult to synchronize their Bluetooth devices.

The accessories included in the box:

  • A small charging cable (USB Type-A to Type-C)
  • Five different silicon ear tips
  • User manual
  • Quick Guide
  • App pairing Guide
