We usually see tech trends, and SoundPEATS came out with translucent or see-through tech earbuds. Many companies have gone that route, and the brand has also gone today, but they have decided to offer some different colors. Today, we will check out SoundPEATS Clear earbuds, which are inexpensive because they only retail for $29. You can’t expect much sound quality in this price range. I was surprised by what they could do, and I thought these were worth it. These earpieces have an IPX4 waterproof rating.
They are available in four colors: black, white, beige, and blue, which I like. These buds can even hear your imagination and have Bluetooth 5.3 for stable and seamless connectivity. When activated in gaming mode, you can play games at low latency without interruptions.
The latest Bluetooth version combined with a gaming mode means the earpieces will cancel any lags with movies and online games. Remember that using it in gaming mode will kill your battery faster, and you can’t necessarily get as far away from the device.
With the 12mm drivers, you can experience the best sound quality while listening to songs with heavy bass. This pair also works with the SoundPEATS app, allowing you to take little hearing tests. It has Adaptive EQ with prebuilt EQ options; however, you can customize the EQ settings yourself. Now, looking back at the charging case and the earpieces themselves.
The overall footprint is small, and the case needs to be more significant. The case is clear upfront, and on the bottom, there is a USB Type-C input. When you remove the earphones, you’ll notice they have a stem-style design but not a substantial obnoxious stem. The evident buds have average battery life and offer 7 hours on a single charge.

Design and Comfort
SoundPEATS Clear is available in four colors: black, blue, white, and beige. And I’m fond of blue, which gives it a unique, touchy look. I want to point out one thing I wish they didn’t do on the stem of each earphone. It has that saying that they have been using it even on the charging case of the Opera Buds and says that here is your imagination.
I would have liked to have seen it say SoundPEATS down the stem. Just keep it clean. I am not a big fan of companies slapping a saying on their products. However, it is just a personal preference of any user.
These earpieces have small overall footprints and a small charging case, which is clear upfront. The carry case has a USB Type-C input at the bottom. The case opens differently than other options from the brand I’ve reviewed recently. The top opens with the SoundPEATS Air4 pro, revealing the headsets’ tops. Half of the case opens like a cockpit, showing the headphones transparently. The noticeable resemblance to Apple Airpods didn’t align with my preferences.
When you remove the earphones, you’ll find they have a stem-style design, which is not a substantial obnoxious style stem. They are comfortable, and they use touch controls. Out of the box, you control everything from playing/pausing music to answering/rejecting calls. They are noticeable pairs of headsets for their transparent design, which makes them distinctive and conversation starters. The transparency allows you to look inside the earbud’s internals.
In short, its transparent design is visually appealing and comfortable to wear. It comes with three different ear tips, each with a soft, ergonomic design that securely fits in the ears, ensuring a snug fit.
Call Quality
These earpieces’ dual microphones have Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC), which helps cut background noise during calls. It helps me communicate clearly with my friends, even in noisy environments. ENC differs from Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) but still has good results. You hear more of what’s around you, but not so much that you can’t hear what you enjoy while listening to music. I prefer Active Noise Cancellation, but at this price range, it’s nice to have ENC than nothing at all. This area is a bright spot in the SoundPEATS Clear.
However, the microphone quality is sufficient because the person on the other end of the call doesn’t raise any concerns. I would have faced issues with people hearing me on call, wired from a multi-billion-dollar company’s product. This problem was fixed on the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro mic. I always use my earpieces for the Teams meetings with my officials, and everyone I conference call knows I conduct earphone reviews. The people on the other end listen to my voice clearly, which sounds great. Hence, the sound was clear, just like its name.
When I used them in quiet places to make phone calls, they had the intended call quality. The dual microphone setup captures voice well and clearly with decent fullness. As I discussed, they performed well in quiet places, making them the ideal choice for indoor video calls. Instead, the mic carries some distortion when used with loud ambient noise.
Microphones perform well at reducing background sounds, so the person on the other end still hears whatever is happening around them during the call. They don’t include active noise cancellation, but they can provide a highly efficient level of passive isolation with a performance that easily exceeds that of most average headsets.
IPX4 Waterproof Rating
They appear durable and have an IPX4 waterproof rating, so they can easily be worn to the gym for workouts. However, the charging case is plastic with a transparent cover that can easily crack. It is recommended that you avoid taking them in the shower or under heavy rain and avoid submerging them, which will almost certainly lead to internal damage.
SoundPEATS Clear is similar in durability to most low-priced earpieces, such as Redmi AirDots 3 Pro and Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2. In short, the IPX4 rating makes Clear Buds surprisingly suitable for sports activities.
Even though the nozzle, bass reflex port, and microphone hole are covered with a mesh fine enough to prevent water from entering the earphones. The mesh inside the nozzle of the buds looks okay enough to stop liquids from entering inside. The case is relatively bulky and almost completely covered in clear plastic.
That latter is also the major issue regarding its durability, and this type of plastic can easily crack during impact. The material shows micro scratches, which makes it look unattractive after some months of use. The case lacks a water-resistant rating, so you should avoid storing it in a moist environment, like next to sweaty or wet clothes.
Earphones are suitable for wearing in the rain, but avoid pouring rain because you need at least IPX5 or IPX6. You should avoid wearing them on dusty roads while running or exercising outside, but they are suitable for wearing with sweat as they provide an IPX4 rating to resist sweat completely. It is highly recommended to dip them underwater, as you need an IPX7 rating or higher for that.
Sound Quality
The most significant aspect of any earpiece is its good audio quality, solid out of the box. However, in different environments, specifically loud backgrounds, I found some sound quality lost—or, rather, not quite what I initially thought. I saw this with the SoundPEATS Capsule 3 Pro, which was outperformed by the SoundPEATS Air4 Pro, which improves its earpieces with every generation of new variants.
These headsets achieve a well-balanced, powerful bass response that can add a massive amount of mid-bass punch without getting out of control. The same is true of their mid-bass; the sub-bass on these earpieces can reach and reproduce even the deepest sub-bass notes on any genre or track without fading the sound signature. One can expect fun with solid bass that doesn’t kill the rest of the audio spectrum ranges.
The lower midrange presents a much less clogged sound than the earphones in the same price range. You can hear the male vocals with sufficient fullness but with a laid-back and, from time to time, distant presence. However, this doesn’t come with congestion from mid-bass as this earpiece doesn’t show mid-bass bleeding over the midrange. Female vocals and the upper mids show a decisive and more pronounced presence that can make them feel more thriving than male vocals.
Furthermore, the upper end presents a gentle sound that is neither too forward nor too dipped. This translated into a sound profile that doesn’t feel hazy but could be brighter and more spacious for the treble and high ranges. Their treble and highs can provide an appropriate higher end for people who prefer a relaxed sound with no rich sibilance or piercing. So, they offer a well-balanced sound profile featuring punchy bass, clear mids, and crisp highs.
SoundPEATS App
If you own SoundPEATS headphones, you must have the SoundPEATS app because it is essential for customizing settings. Sometimes, users with older versions can receive firmware updates to enjoy the app with the latest features. The app will help you customize your sound profile to listen to different genres at their best level. In the case of Clear headsets, the app doesn’t offer many settings and customization because it doesn’t offer ANC.
However, you can select Gaming Mode, a custom equalizer, turn off touch controls, and my favorite. I don’t oppose touch controls, but this app setting is helpful in the rain, and I don’t need the hood of my coat to activate them. Gaming Mode ensures the sound delay is significantly cut to ensure the game’s audio and video synchronization. It’s enabled by default, but if you are listening to your downloaded music or Spotify, turning off the Gaming Mode will give a slightly better audio quality.
The app has eight sound effects by default to achieve a treble-oriented listening experience with enhanced bass. Those included Electronic, Bass Boost, Bass Reduction, Folk, Rock n Roll, classical music, Treble Enhancement, and Pop. You can also use the Band Custom Equalizer to change the audio to suit your preference. Whatever you last set, the Custom EQ setting will save to your Clear earphones for use on any device or app.
Using the app, users can turn ON/Off the LDAC Codec Mode or the simultaneous connection for different earbuds. Due to technical issues, these two features can’t be activated simultaneously. So, the app provides users with unique functions, and connected devices can customize personalized functions to optimize user experience.
Gaming Mode/Low Latency
SoundPEATS Clear earphones have a Game Mode, which means they support low latency and are ideal for gamers. You can turn on the Gaming Mode by installing the SoundPEATS app on your device. Alternatively, you can activate it by tapping three times on the touch surface of the left earpiece. When you hear the voice prompt in your ears, you have activated the desired mode.
Through its promotional message, the brand claims that these earpieces have a 90ms low latency when you activate the gaming mode. It means you can play games online with friends or listen to music without lag. Latency with 90ms is so fast that it is unnoticeable to the human eye or even the ear and renders all online videos perfectly timed.
I feel a hair while playing First-Person Shooter games, but overall, the gaming experience is good. It allows users to check small footsteps and skill usage sounds in FPA and is suitable for standing and smartphone games. The mode automatically prioritizes your game’s performance for smoother and improved in-game responsiveness and consistent frame rates. Set the Game Mode off during normal use to achieve a more balanced performance distribution for your app.
Playtime
SoundPEATS claims that these earbuds boast 7 hours of playtime on a single charge, and the charging case adds another 33 hours. The charging case offers an additional 5 recharges for prolonged music playback, which means you can enjoy 40 hours of playtime.
Over a week of using the headsets at home and in my office, I didn’t run out of battery or even need to charge them frequently. This battery level is awesomely reassuring to me at such a low cost. These earpieces lack fast charging and wireless charging.
