The Razer’s Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed earbuds chose a stemmed style for design, so if someone uses AirPod, he is familiar with this. It’s somewhat old-fashioned today because many brands have changed their design from bulky to more compact, stemless designs. Razer’s earbuds seem more plastic than many competitors and are slightly cheaper. They have a black piano gloss finish, and black gloss isn’t in fashion now. On the other hand, it earns these magnetism characteristics and attracts lint, fingerprints, and earwax.

While earbuds are not very graphic, they compensate for it with comfort. This is subjective based on how each user’s ear is shaped, but these earbuds felt comfortable for several hours at a stretch. After a while, the stemmed design turned the fatigue on since stems pressed slightly into my ears, but nothing was awful. Every rose design I’ve tried caused some lack of comfort anyway, and a short break again got me going with all smiles. The Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed earbuds come with three earbud tip sizes: small, large, and medium.

One additional accessory lurks in the box: a 2.4GHz wireless HyperSpeed adapter to connect the earbuds without Bluetooth 5. However, using this option, you can connect your earphones over a more extended range, surpassing up to 2.4GHz spectrum instead. The adapter has USB-C, and a handy USB-A adaptation added to it as well.

Razer accommodates 10 mm drivers inside the Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed earbuds. The brand also applies a THX-certified label, claiming the audio is good enough to enjoy background music while playing games. Also, earphones would work far better at listening to music than while playing.

The earpieces were powerful and roomy, frequently with the proper tuning level. The song, Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift was on the thick side, almost dense, with a wide gap between the perfect clarity of Swift’s vocals and that underlying hum from the bassline. I found a similar impact in Boards of Canada closer to New Seeds, an intricate multilayered but subtle instrumental foray breaking its grainy midrange and hypnotic bassline with hearing-hurting electronic wail a siren’s more or less halfway. Additionally, they produced a good feeling of depth and separation, so the music made my feet itch to dance to the rhythm.

Yves Tumor’s Echolalia and DJ Shadow’s Nobody Speak needed help with unclear midrange sounds and incoherent voices. While these tracks are very different, they both contain lower, more monotone vocals accompanied by bass. Such a concern was visible here, but at the same time, it did not spoil the experience.

The audio from the microphone was quite loud, which made the conversation clearer. You should have no issues in hearing from your Discord friends. The sound was chaotic and clear enough to be true stereo sound without the tinny, metallic character familiar on cheap microphones.

However, you might face issues with ambient noise instead of Ambient Mode. The microphone supports noise canceling, but when it comes to a physical location, sounds around will likely be picked up. Even the slightest sounds, such as the tip-tap of a keyboard or click of a mouse, I can listen during testing. If you don’t have the push to talk and drive around with a microphone open, your friends will not be fond of you. For the most part, controls come into place while watching media or receiving calls. We never encountered serious issues when pausing a video or muting the microphone.

The rounded charging case looks like Apple’s AirPods Pro but in black. As smartly as brands like Samsung and Beats have strived to achieve scratch resistance in their GT series of earphones, Razer decided to opt for a matte finish on the charging case whereby fingerprints are not easily visible, unlike the earpieces, which bear stain information.

Razer says the operating time is between 4 and 6 hours on/off the lighting and ANC features of the earpieces. It gives an additional 11 to 24 hours when charging them using the fast wireless charging case. Razer lags behind the most popular wireless earbuds, such as the Sony 1000XM4 or Jabra Elite 3.

That could be a problem for regular gamers who play games all day and night. Typically, I do not play for more than two hours; hence, the low battery warning is only cautioned when I neglect/fail to recharge it after use. In percentages, my earbuds lasted about four hours with lighting and ANC before needing to be charged.

You can cancel out noise during focused gaming sessions with adjustable Active Noise Cancellation. Its ANC sounds are simple, but it works fine. Filtering out the low-frequency, repetitive background noise, such as a fan or air conditioner, was straightforward, but high-pitched or irregular sounds invaded. It’s far from the quality of what you will see in Apple’s AirPods Pro, but it certainly diminished ambient noise.

Joined with a layer of gamer-specific features, the ANC and Ambient Mode become part of Gaming Mode and block incoming calls when gaming over the HyperSpeed connection. You can control the RGB lightning through the sleek, attractive Razer Audio App. Users can switch between ANC and Gaming Modes with a quick tap or two on the earbuds. Other physical controls are very complex, but the app remaps them. However, this feature is helpful if you have a favorite functionality needing faster access.

The layout was easier and faster to navigate using the app rather than the tap controls. Opening my phone to switch on or off something was fine compared to attempting at the earbuds by trying various finger-waggling taps until I remembered my right setting. The audio quality was OK, and noise cancellation is noticeably clearer by a given tier than the best ANC earbuds like AirPods Pro or Bose QuietComfort. Toggle Do Not Disturb Mode to block interruptions from calls and texts during your listening or gaming sessions.

While I did not see any difference in latency between Bluetooth and HyperSpeed, it was evident that the HyperSpeed connection was more vital for me so that I could listen to audio over its transmission anywhere inside my house. Bluetooth audio systems in my home have notorious range out after only a few rooms away, but this was not surprising.
